Controle Technique in France
In France vehicles over 4 years old from the date of first registration in there country of origin are required by law to undergo a controle tehnique which is a roadworthiness test to ensure that your vehicle is safe to be driven on French roads during this test the following items may be tested.
- Tyres
- Glass
- Emission outputs
- Brakes
- Windscreen Wipers
- Lights and indicators
- Suspension
New vehicles being tested for the first time must be tested 6 months prior to the date that they become 4 years old once your vehicle has passed this test you will be given a sticker that must be displayed in the windscreen of your vehicle and the vehicle must then be retested every 2 years from there on.
If for any reason your vehicles fails this test you will have 2 months to rectify the problems before it is deemed unroadworthy the repairs must be made and the vehicle must be returned to the controle technique test centre for further inspection of the problem areas if you fail to return to the controle techique test centre within 2 months your vehicle must undergo a full retest and you will have to pay again.
A controle technique shouldn't take longer than an hour to complete and must be carried out by an authorised inspector.
