3. How much VRT will i have to pay ?
VRT is charged on a percentage of the OMSP (Open Market Selling Price) of your vehicle based on a sliding scale relating to the co2 rating of your vehicle.
4. Do i have to pay VAT Value Added Tax ?
Yes - If your vehicle is being imported from outside of the EU (European Union)
No - If your vehicle is being imported from within the EU (European Union)
5. How much VAT will i have to pay if my vehicle is being imported from outside to the EU ?
VAT in Ireland is charged at 21% which will be charged against the invoice value and shipping costs involved in getting your vehicle to Ireland.
6. What does OMSP stand for ?
OMSP stands for Open Market Selling Price and is the figure used to calculate your VRT.
7. What is an NCT ?
NCT stands for Nation Car Testing a road worthiness test introduced in 2000 to improve road safety.
8. How do i know when my vehicle needs an NCT ?
Any vehicle over 4 years old from the first registration date in its country of origin will need an NCT.
9. How long does an NCT last ?
An NCT lasts 2 years.
10. How is road tax calculated in Ireland ?
Car tax in Ireland is calculated on the engine size of your vehicle the bigger the engine the more you have to pay.
11. Do i have to pay duty ?
You only have to pay import duty in Ireland if the vehicle has been imported from outside of the European Union
