National Car Testing (NCT)
National Car Testing was first introduced to Ireland on 4th January 2000 to comply with the EU directive which made car testing compulsory in all EU states.The directive was brought in to effect to help improve road safety and to help protect the enviroment.
Which vehicles need an NCT ?
Any vehicle over 4 years old from the date of first registration in its country of origin.
Where do i take my vehicle for an NCT ?
An NCT can be carried out at any of the 43 purpose built NCT test centres throughout Ireland.
How much will an NCT cost ?
An NCT will cost €50 but if the vehicles fails and requires work to be carried out in order to pass the test a further €28 will be charged if test equipment is used if a retest does not require the use of test equipment the retest will be free.

How long does an NCT last ?
An NCT lasts for 2 years from the date first tested.
