How to temporarily import a vehicle or car into Spain

Non residents of Spain may temporarily import a vehicle/car from outside or within the EU (European Union) for a period of up to 6 months the 6 month period does not have to be continuous the ruling says that a vehicle must not be used for more than 182 days of a year but can remain in Spain for the whole year but may be required to be sealed by customs when not in use the vehicle must also be road legal in its country of origin for example the vehicle must be taxed, insured for use in Spain and have any necessary roadworthiness certificates you may also be required to show the vehicles registration certificate, valid insurance and road worthiness certificate upon request from Spanish officials so these documents must be kept in your vehicle at all times.

If you use the vehicle for more than 182 days in any 1 year period you will need to register your vehicle/car on Spanish plates and pay the necessary import duty, IVA and special registration tax.

Full time students or people regularly entering Spain for work purposes can apply for special permission to have the 6 month period extended.
